Kathleen Smith has worked at the Fox Chase Cancer Center in Pennsylvania for thirty years. She began her career as a registered nurse caring for in-patients and then spent fourteen years in chemotherapy infusion administration. Kathleen holds a master’s degree as well as CRNP certification. In 2017, she earned an additional Advanced Oncology Nurse Practitioner Certification.
Ms. Smith’s special interest in women’s health is particularly focused on gynecologic cancers. As part of that concern, she has experienced caring for patients physically while also supporting them through fear, anxiety, questions, and has provided information to help women deal with the potential side effects of treatments and the disease process.
Her special interest is in the early detection of ovarian cancer. As part of their growing friendship, Elizabeth’s courage, strength, determination, and care about other women in her situation, made Kathleen’s motivation to help women learn how to seek appropriate diagnoses and treatment plans even more powerful.
Kathleen is also interested in survivorship including the physical and emotional impact of cancer on women and their families following treatment. Her current project is the development of a survivorship clinic.
